01.12.01 @ 5:24PM EST~ Further Character Details

The role of the hero will be played by Tida (not 'Tide,' as previously mentioned), a 17-year-old, sword-wielding boy. He's said to be 'cheerful' and a star athlete, especially in a sport called 'Blitzball.' His companion in FFX will be Yuna, a staff-carrying, 17-year-old female. Yuna is the daugther of a master summoner, and is unhappy living in the shadow of her famous family. She is also a summoner herself, but rarely uses her powers.

01.05.01 @ 9:41PM EST~ More Characters

Joining the previously announced characters, Tide and Yuna, are several other whose names have been recently released. Ryugo will likely be Tide's rival, possibly along the lines of Squall and Seifer in FF8. Kitt is assumed to be a female, and the third character, Hayate, may be a pseudo-Japanese male. Both Kitt and Hayate may be playable characters, but it's unknown whether the player will be able to use Ryugo.

All names are unofficial Romanizations.

01.04.01 @ 7:34PM EST~ Vocalist Chosen for FFX Theme

Although details pertaining to FFX are scarce, it has been reported that a singer has been chosen for the game's theme song. The choice for this installment of the FF series is Rikki, an Okinawan folk singer. You can find more information on Rikki at her homepage.

12.24.00 @ 8:20PM EST~ First FFX Details

Recently, at Japan's Jump Festival Square released the first details for FFX since it's announcement in January. FFX apparently takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, which is covered mostly by water. The major characters include Tide, the typical sword-carrying male, and Yuna, his staff-toting female companion. The plot is expected to center around a battle between the elements, quite possibly between Yuna and a fire god (Ifrit). However, these are all unconfirmed details, and should not be taken too seriously.

One thing has been confirmed: FFX will feature CG movies, as have the previous 3 games. Although the game will take place in a fully 3-D world for the first time in series history, major scenes will be shown through FMV.

11.30.00 @ 9:41PM EST~ FFX Theme Song Complete

FF composer Nobuo Uematsu has been keeping a diary on Square's PlayOnline website for several weeks. Most entries have been about his personal life, such as remodeling his home and coping with deadline stress. However, an entry date November 3rd reveals the completion of the main theme for FFX. No information was revealed as to the style of the theme, but Uematsu comment that the lyrics, written by Kazushige Nojima, were "wonderful."

11.27.00 @ 9: 47PM EST~ Approximate Japanese Release Date

FFX, the first Final Fantasy for the Playstation 2 console, is to be expected in Japanese stores sometime in March 2001.

11.27.00 @ 9:39PM EST~ Square Sets High Goals For Sales

Square President Takashi Suzuki stated that the company hopes that FFX will sell up to 2.9 million copies in Japan. To achieve this goal, most Playstation 2 owners would have to buy the game. He added that he wasn't "completely sure if FFX will achieve 2.9 million," but it isn't impossible. FFVII sold 3 million copies when only 5 million Playstations had been sold.

11.25.00 @ 9:48PM EST~ FFX Offline

Square's initial plans to include online capabilities in FFX have been scratched due to problems with the PlayOnline network. FFX is still to be expected to be released sometime in the spring of 2001. The opening PlayOnline, however, has been pushed back until sometime in the Winter of 2001.
